Title: Britain's Huge "Stirlings" Deliver Eight Tons of Boms
extracted text (Extract Text)
BRISTLING with guns and capable of
carrying eight tons of bombs for long-
range attacks, one of Britain's giant new
four-engine Stirling bombers is shown above
being loaded by ground personnel in prep-
aration for a mission. Nicknamed “flying
freight trains,” the bombers have enabled
the British to carry on relentless and re-
peated attacks deep in enemy territory over
Europe. Even the twin tail wheels retract
into the ship in flight. In the lower picture,
one of the Stirlings is shown taking off from
an English airdrome, revealing the machine-
gun nest in its tail.
