Aerial Mine Field Guards Against Plane Raids

extracted text (Extract Text)

Here's how the aerial mine field, in-
vented for protection of England
against enemy air raiders, is intended
to be used. Hundreds of hydrogen-
filled balloons, each five feet in diam-
eter, are sent aloft, perhaps to 30,000
feet, with small bombs suspended by
long wires. Aircraft striking one bomb
would be damaged severely, perhaps
disabled. It is claimed the balloons
can be regulated to float at the alti-
tude desired. Cost of the aerial mine
is said to be small, thus permitting its
use in large numbers for the protection
of cities and military objectives
