Prefabricated Steel-Wall House Has Canvas Partitions

Item

Of radically new design, a prefabricated steel house, offered to the government as a solution of the problem of housing defense workers, is formed by bolting together 20 corrugated panels to form a circular building. Made by The Dymaxion Company, of Hoboken, N. J., it is said to be well suited for defense housing-because of its low cost - about $750 - and the rapidity with which it could be manufactured. The steel house, which weighs 1% tons, can be erected in six man-days, and dismantled in two days. Inside, it is 20 feet in diameter and }2 feet high, the four rooms being separated by canvas pArtitions. There are 10 “porthole” windows in the sides, And set in the ceiling are 15 skylights.
