Locomotive Turns Fire Engine to Fight "Blitz"

Item

Small freight locomotives have been converted into fire engines to fight flames started by enemy raids along the lines of the Southern Railway in England. Equipped with a 60-foot flexible suction pipe, these freight engines have steam-driven pumps capable of delivering a ton of water per minute. The pump is mounted on the rear of the locomotive. Special wrecking trains and fire and bomb cars are also held in readiness for emergencies on the British railways.
