Plastic replaces wood in stocks of guns
extracted text (Extract Text)
STOCKS and fore-ends made of syn-
thetic plastic instead of wood are now
being provided for shotguns, and are
being considered for the mass manufac-
ture of military weapons. Said to be
more durable than wood, as well as
capable of being produced easily in
large quantities, the material has lower
moisture absorption and greater resist-
ance to shock and vibration than wood,
while presenting the same smooth-
grained surface effect of fine walnut.
