An officer's field coat issued by the
U. S. Army Quartermaster Corps has so
many novel features That if con Go almost
gverything for o soldier but cook his
breakfast. Shown af right is the detach-
able hood that can be buttoned on over
the collar. When the drawstring is pulled
fight, only a small part of the officer's
face is left exposed to the weather

Another innovation provides for the
front skirts fo be buttoned back fo
allow maximum freedom of move-
ment when the wearer is marching
over rough terrain. Most novel
feature, however, is the cantle
piece ot the rear of the coat.
In addifion to keeping out wind
and rain, the pleat, when unbui-
toned, makes it possible for the
officer fo string up the garment's
poplin shell as a one-man shelter,
using the wool liner as a blanket

Made of wind-resistant poplin, the coat
has a complete knitted cloth-wool liner
(above) the pockets and lapels of which
aro trimmed with satin. When detached,
the liner can bo worn as a light topcoat
or used as a blanket or mattress. Fully
assomblod, tho field coat is said to be
much warmer than the ordinary overcoat
