THE pen is not always
mightier than the sword.
There were many Indian troopers
in the war who bayoneted beauti-
fully, but who did not know
how ‘to write their names. This
hindered them very little except
when they signed the pay-roll.
Here we see how they did it: with
thumbprints. According to the
law of thumbs, no two are alike.
