A Submarine's First Bath

IF the war hadn't ended this submarine would
now be “over there” and in the thick of the fight;
but of course we couldn't keep the war going just to
give this submarine her chance.

She is the S-34, built and launched in San Fran-
cisco, and is one of the most deadly of undersea
boats. She belongs to the 800-ton class and is 170
feet long.

By now Germany knows full well her mistake in
laughing at England's “contemptible little army”
and in prophesying that “America won't fight."
