IN our picture the R-33 is about to make her
début. The signal has been given, the doors are
being opened, and she will presently step forth.

It takes fifty men twenty minutes to open these
doors by means of winches, for the doors are very
large. But they have to be, since the R-33 her-
self is a monster. She is the largest airship in
the world.

This début of hers took place at Barlow, England,
on March 6. She went up to a height of 2,000 feet
and stayed up there three hours beforeshe came down
again.

She was so well satisfied with her flying ability
that she has decided to make an effort to win that
$50,000 prize to be awarded for crossing the
Atlantic first.
