TERROR of Axis armor and motorized equip-
ment, the Bell Airacobra is a plane that grew
around a 37-millimeter cannon. Its 1,150-horse-
power Allison liquid-cooled engine rides behind the
pilot, with its shaft running between his legs to a
gear box in the nose. Jo Kotula’s brush has caught
the P-30 in a mission to strafe a truck convoy.
