Part of Pulley Exerciser Helps Sailors Keep Waistline Limber

Keeping sailors fit physically was the aim of Gene Tunney, former heavyweight prize-fight champion, when he offered to the Navy his new exerciser. The apparatus consists of pulleys fastened to the wall and ropes passing through them. To use it the sailor lies on his back on the floor, grasping the ropes in his hands and fastens the other ends to his ankles. Vigorous action can be obtained by alternately lowering and raising the hands, which in turn causes the legs to see-saw up and down, flexing the body at the midsection.
