Part of Inflated Boat and Life Jacket Save Lives of Airmen

Parachutes are not enough for saving airmen forced down at sea. For such emergencies flyers of the British Royal Air Force wear a life jacket, including trousers and coat, capable of keeping a man up- right in the water while he makes buoyant a small rubber boat by inflating it from a compressed-air bottle. The boat is carried in a flat container attached to his life jacket. When the dinghy is ready he clambers into it and paddles toward safety.
