Part of "S O S" Signal in Colored Smoke Seen 30 Miles
Shipwrecked men and airmen down at sea can send a visible “S O S” with a new life-saving device tested by the British Ministry of Shipping. It is a small canister, known as the Wessex daylight smoke signal, which releases a cloud of orange colored smoke when its trigger is pressed. The smoke rises continuously for an hour, increasing in intensity until the column is visible for 30 miles or more.
