A GOOD example of German thriftiness is their utilization of their condemned submarines. Out of the hulls of two of these U-boats they have built a twin-screw motor tankship, called the "Ostpreussen." A sister ship, the "Oberschlesien," which made its first trip with oil from Texas to Hamburg, encountered very bad weather, and proved its thorough seaworthiness. These ships were built at the Germania Yards at Kiel. They are the first attempts to convert U-boats into trading vessels.
