A quadrangular silky handkerchief bears in the middle the printed shape of a golden yellow sun (or of a monstrance), with inside the inscription "VIVA PIO IX" [= long live to Pius IX] decorated with multicolor flowers.
Around the subject, three decreasing frames bear the colors of the french flag (red, white and blu), and a smaller gold-yellow frame share the white frame in two. Yellow and white are the color of the pope flag.
